Planned industrial action by tanker drivers has been called off after Certas Energy increased its pay offer following union involvement.
Staff were dissatisfied with a proposed 2% wage increase, which Unite argued amounted to a cut after inflation was taken into account. The union threatened a series of walkouts across December and January if an improved offer was not tabled.
Three days before Christmas the strikes were suspended after Certas made an improved offer, and Unite now says the action has been called off entirely with the energy firm’s 3.25% pay rise, backdated to April 2025, being accepted.
The deal will also see drivers receive Retail-Price-Index linked wage increases across 2026 and 2027, with a floor of 3% and a ceiling of 3.75%. Drivers are also in-line to receive an unspecified “range of other benefits”, according to the union.
Unite’s general secretary, Sharon Graham, says Certas’ drivers “stood together in their union and won”.
