Certas Energy has grown its truck-stop business with the acquisition of a facility in Dumfries and Galloway.
‘Fechan Truck Stop sits five miles south of Lockerbie on the A74(M), on which 16,000 lorries travel each day. The site is powered exclusively by wind turbine and features 217 HGV parking spaces, together with a truck-wash facility, a diner, rest area, TV room, showers and wi-fi.
Certas has had a presence at Fechan since 2019 by way of a refuelling bunker, and plans to introduce a round of improvements to the site, with chargers for electric HGVs among these.
The acquisition comes as the company, which supplies around 1,200 filling stations in the UK and runs dozens of forecourts itself, continues to expand its truck-stop operations, with the aim of having a dozen such sites within a few years. Certas purchased The Hollies in 2021, and Watling Street truck stop earlier this year.
Mike Heaton, head of estate development at Certas Energy Fuel Cards, says:
“Powered by wind, offering upcoming e-HGV charging and major improvements planned, this site embodies the innovation and investment needed to support the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon freight future.”
