EV chargers are part of a series of improvements to the truck stop

The UK’s oldest truck stop has is fully embracing modernity after being kitted with solar panels and EV chargers.

TheStop at The Hollies has been operating since the 1930s and is located close to Junction 12 of the M6 to the north of Birmingham.

Having been bought by Certas Energy in 2021, the stop has benefited from the addition of 48 new solar panels, a pair of EV chargers and a new water system.

The solar panels are expected to provide 8% of the site’s total electricity needs, with the £35,000 installation being partly funded by government grants.

The two new electric car chargers are 22kW units, operated by Certas under its Evolo Ev network. The water system, meanwhile, purifies and deionises mains water, with real-time leak monitoring and detection. These latest upgrades follow the installation of a new kitchen earlier in the year.
