The modest forecourt will be replaced by a significantly larger facility if planning permission is granted

A filling station in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, is set to be comprehensively redeveloped if the local authority grants a recent planning application.

Savile Petroleum is seeking permission from Wakefield Council to demolish the existing Shell filling station on Minsthorpe Lane, South Elmsall, constructing in its place an all-new 24-hour facility featuring a shop with a gross floor area of almost 4,000sq ft and 2,500sq ft of retail space, including a food-to-go offering,

The glass-fronted shop will feature a dozen parking bays to its front and will face 12 fuelling bays served by six pumps. Three EV charging bays will also be installed, as will an air/water/vac bay.

The site sits in a residential neighbourhood and local residents appear split on the redevelopment plans, with some voicing support, and others sharing concerns related to noise, traffic and the 24-hour nature of the proposals.
