A new self-serve hot pizza-to-go solution from frozen pizza brand Chicago Town has just been launched into convenience. Following successful trials with leading multi-site operators including regional Spar group, James Hall, the self-serve FTG concept is now available to the wider convenience and forecourt marketplace.

Richard Cooper, senior brand manager, Dr Oetker said: “Food to go continues to grow and is set to reach £22.8bn by 2023. Most operators are experiencing double-digit sales growth year-on-year from food to go and now our self-serve pizza-to-go concept can help them take it to the next level.”

He continues: “Consumers want to be able to grab and go in store and so self-serve offerings are extremely important right now. Our new solution is helping retailers like Spar bring in new shoppers as well as retaining existing shoppers and increasing their basket spend at the same time.”

The range includes 12-inch takeaway pizzas available in Loaded Cheese, Loaded Pepperoni, New Chicken & Bacon and New Manhattan Meaty. They cook in 6-12 minutes - stores can use their existing ovens - and sell in quarters, half slices or full pizzas.

Self-serve pizza-to-go is perfect for multi-site convenience operators who have already got hot food-to-go equipment in store, according to Cooper, who stresses that it’s really quick and easy to start selling and profiting: “Consumers want to see us in the food-to-go aisle. We bring 10 million pizza lovers that are already buying Chicago Town and on top of this we offer fantastic branding and highly impactful and extendable point-of-sale including shelf-edged strips, barkers, meal deals and lots more across different touch points. All this helps to drive sales across the different occasions and day parts. Now we want more and more convenience stores to get a slice of the action too.”
