Former Forecourt Trader of the Year and current Convenience Retailer of the Year David Charman has joined the advisory panel for Unilever’s category advice programme Partners for Growth.

The Retailer Advisory Panel, a key part of the Partners for Growth programme, was launched in 2009 to help convenience retailers improve their overall business performance, as well as their category performance.

The panel is made up of highly experienced, award-winning retailers who are committed to excellence in retailing and work with Partners for Growth to offer retailers their invaluable industry, business and retail insights together with mentoring support.

Charman who runs the 24-hour forecourt Spar Parkfoot in West Malling Kent, commented: “I am passionate about building a better future for the convenience sector and so was delighted to be invited to join the Partners for Growth Retailer Advisory Panel. In providing unbiased advice to convenience retailers, Partners for Growth represents an invaluable business tool to the sector and, as a panel member, I look forward to making a positive contribution to the programme.”

Unilever’s convenience director John Macfarlane said: “We are excited to welcome David on board the Retailer Advisory Panel. He has been a positive addition to the panel and brings with him a tremendous amount of knowledge and expertise. David’s joining further strengthens the panel which plays a critical role in the service provided by Partners for Growth.”

Partners for Growth recently improved the content of its website and is currently rolling out category-based advice tailored to a retailer’s specific local area, over the nine category areas.
