Kerry Foods has launched what it describes as a ’smarter snack’ under its Mattessons brand. Mattessons Strip Sticks are chicken skewers made with 100% chicken breast and are therefore high in protein. The snack is available in a classic roast variety in both a strip stick single 50g portion (rrp £1.49) and a minis multipack of two 30g portions (rrp £1.69).

The company say the launch aims to help retailers expand their meat snacking sales, a category which is currently growing at 9% year on year (Nielsen data). Ninety per cent of this growth is incremental to the cooked meats category, meaning that consumers are not switching from one product to another, but adding to their consumption. Nielsen data gives Mattessons a brand value of nearly £80m and growth of 13.5% over the past two years.
