Six old upright super-market tanks were juggled by giant cranes as part of David Plumb & Co’s latest project to decommission them for reuse.
The tanks - two x 60,000ltr and four x 90,000ltr - used to serve the refuelling site for Safeway delivery lorries at the company’s giant depot at Aylesford, Kent, but had been made redundant by bigger tanks supplied by Ledbury Welding, when the depot moved over to Morrisons. The used tanks had to be removed intact, so each one was thoroughly cleaned, detached from all its pipework and anchoring points, lifted out of place, and then swung from vertical to horizontal to place it on a flat bed trailer for transport to its new home. This last manoeuvre required cutting a temporary anchor point to attach a line from a second crane.
