The advent of chip and pin might necessitate retailers to double the capacity of their connections if they don’t want to keep customers waiting.

The news comes from Transaction Network Services (TNS), which warns of possible delays at checkouts, particularly at peak times. Alan Stephenson-Brown, sales director at TNS reckons that if retailers do not review their connections they could jeopardise the goodwill of their customers. “We are urging retailers to work with their telecommunications and banking provider to review network capacity.”
