Oxfordshire-based Inpace Ltd has launched a range of covers to protect chip and pin units.
“With the advent of chip and pin the whole customer interaction with hardware during a credit card or debit card transaction has changed dramatically,” says the company’s national sales manager Jamie Plumridge. “Whereas in the past it has been only a handful of staff that are regularly touching the PDQ machines, it is now many customers on a daily basis. This obviously creates health & safety issues in all retail situations. Imagine the amount of petrol, diesel, germs and general grime being placed onto a pin pad or PDQ device on a daily basis by different people putting in their pin number. You can’t just spray or wipe the machine with cleaner directly as it would potentially damage the device.”
