Ascona Group’s Station Garage, Heol Y Doll, Machynlleth, in Powys, will close for six months from the end of this month to make way for a £1.75m knockdown rebuild.
The redevelopment of the petrol station will include more fuel pumps than before including dedicated HGV lanes, EV charging, more car parking spaces, a car wash, jet wash and a new shop with a hot food to go.
The Ascona site is Machynlleth’s only petrol station so residents will have to drive nearly 10 miles to either Talybont or Tywyn for their fuel.
Talking to the Powys County Times, Ascona said it was sorry about the inconvenience but assured locals that the new site would be future-proof and an asset to the local community.
A spokesperson said: “When we took over the site, we knew that the building and infrastructure needed to be upgraded as the tank size and retail areas were not fit for purpose or indeed future proof. This is why we need to replace the tanks with higher capacity and increase the size of the retail area.”
