The Browns Food Stores fascia could be rolled out to other sites in the future

The Brown family have completed a knockdown rebuild of their Oversley Mill Services forecourt on the A46 near Alcester in Warwickshire.

Owners of the BP petrol filling station since 1961, they have taken the opportunity to put their name above the shop door, while also switching from Spar to Co-op Wholesale.

The Browns Food Stores fascia could be rolled out to other sites in the future, says the business which currently operates two forecourts.

Other changes at the 24-hour site include an expanded range of fresh and chilled food featuring Co-op own-brand, and repositioning the store as a top-up shopping destination for passing motorists and the local community.

And the redevelopment sees the introduction of the Browns Kitchen food to go zone, which includes hot food, and meal deals.

Browns’ director Harry Brown says: “We wanted to build something people actually enjoy visiting, not just a stop-off. Browns is now a place where customers can do a genuine top-up shop, pick up fresh food, or grab lunch on the move. It’s a completely different experience to what was here before.”

He adds: “We’d never offered fresh before, now it’s one of our strongest categories. The Co-op range helps us compete on quality and value, and it’s transformed how people use the store.”

Phil Howell, key accounts manager at Co-op Wholesale, adds: “Browns at Oversley Mill is a fantastic example of how investment, ambition, and the right partner can completely change the role a store plays in its community. The result is a modern, food-led destination that still meets the needs of forecourt customers but goes so much further.”
