Most motorway service areas (MSAs) are doing a good job according to the latest Motorway Services User Survey conducted by Transport Focus.

The survey found that 93% of visitors to MSAs were ‘satisfied’ with 61% ’very satisfied’. Moto Rugby came out top followed by Moto Donington Park and then Extra Blackburn with Darwen.

Peterborough Services (A1(M) J17) was recognised as one of the top 10, coming in at the number eight position.

The research found that 98% of visitors were satisfied with Peterborough Services and the MSA achieved an ‘excellent’ +63 Net Promoter Score, which reflects how likely visitors would be to recommend the site to someone making a similar journey.

The news comes after MSA developer and operator Extra MSA Group completed a multi-million-pound investment into Peterborough Services, to improve the experience of visitors stopping off on their journeys and local people visiting the leisure and hospitality hub.

Extensive works included the installation of a new children’s play area; new high-powered EV charging points provided by Ionity; refurbishment of the food court and car park; enhanced ecology and landscaping; and updated on-site amenities including washroom facilities. Peterborough Services also recently welcomed PizzaLuxe, an award-winning gourmet pizza brand offering a restaurant experience within the food court.

Andrew Long, CEO of Extra MSA Group, said: “We’re committed to going the extra mile and providing an exceptional experience for visitors, and that’s why we’ve been investing in a number of MSAs across our estate.

“As well as attracting people travelling on key routes across the country, Peterborough Services regularly brings in local visitors from the surrounding areas to make the most of its food and drink offering and the stunning countryside setting. Our new and improved facilities will help create an even better overall experience for visitors, and it’s great to see this already being recognised through visitors’ overall satisfaction with the site and specific facilities such as the toilets - with 96% saying they were satisfied with these facilities at Peterborough in particular.”

Extra MSA also came out top of the four biggest MSA operators in this year’s survey in terms of overall satisfaction; achieving a higher NPS score overall than all other MSA operators; and receiving the joint-best operator score for satisfaction with the toilets.
