Oban Filing Station hosted a charity car wash for Diabetes UK

A charity car wash at Oban Filling Station in Oban, Argyll and Bute, has raised hundreds of pounds for Diabetes UK.

The forecourt is owned by Colin MacNiven, who is also the manager of the Oban Ravens Squash Club. As well as doing very well at playing squash, the team prides itself on regularly raising money for charities.

Despite wind, rain and hailstones the ladies in the team washed vehicles on March 28 and 29 with happy customers generously donating more than the minimum £5 fee. Eight ladies from the 21-strong squad turned out to wash the cars; they soaped the vehicles by hand and rinsed them off with the forecourt’s jet wash.

The team raised nearly £800 from the car washing and an extra £200 from raffle tickets. The money is being split evenly between the team (for running costs) and Diabetes UK.

“The Oban Ravens play all over the country and are doing really well,” says MacNiven.

His filling station is one of three in the town but he says there is plenty of business to go round. It’s a tourist town so the site is really busy during the summer, although MacNiven adds that any bad weather brings the drivers in to fill up too. And he has had no problems with supplies during the war in Iran.

The site will benefit from a huge investment this summer with a revamped shop and services, and a new fuel brand.
