The Shell Sceptre Service Station at The Dome roundabout in Watford is closing on December 10 for a full knockdown-rebuild.
According to the planning documents lodged with Watford Borough Council, the redevelopment of the existing petrol filling station will include the demolition of the shop, canopy and forecourt plus the removal of underground fuel tanks and LPG tanks.
A new shop, forecourt and canopy will be erected with car parking spaces and new EV charging bays.
There will be new underground fuel tanks and associated pipework and the jet wash will be replaced
Shell told the Watford Observer that the development will take up to two years but it is aiming to complete it as quickly as possible.
The current site has a Little Waitrose on it and it was reported on Twitter that the shop was closing due to challenging trading conditions. However, it has now been confirmed that its closure is due to the knockdown-rebuild. It is understood that Waitrose has a number of years left on its lease.
