Top 50 Indie Ascona has submitted a planning application to grow a filling station in the Peak District, with the firm intending to convert a building previously used as a car-sales business into a bakery.
The building, which is connected to the main forecourt shop of Sickleholme Service Station near the village of Bamford, 13 miles to the west of Sheffield in the Hope Valley, is currently faced by two large roll-up style garage doors, and Ascona says its proposals would give the site “a visually upgraded and more refined appearance”.
If Ascona gets the nod from local authority the Peak District National Park, a glazed shopfront edged in grey aluminium will replace those garage doors, while the bakery will feature spaces for ”food preparation, serving, and customer interaction”. Ascnoa says the project will bring “a currently unused part of the building back into active use”.
Planning documents detail that the bakery will add to the local community as there are “few such outlets in the area”, and it will provide a “valuable catering option” while also “supporting local employment”.
The bakery will be fully kitted out and will feature “a high-quality and contextually appropriate finish”, and the building’s insulation will be upgraded, “improving internal comfort” and “bringing the thermal performance of the structure in line with current building regulations”.
