The car-dealership building remains standing but vacant

Plans to turn a Kidderminster site previously occupied by a Vauxhall car dealership into a new filling station have been submitted to local authorities by EG On The Move.

The site sits on a main road close to the centre of the Worcestershire town, and is described by EGOTM’s planners as being “prominent in nature”.

The car dealership that used to operate from the land closed in 2023 after the franchise owner went into administration and, since then, the site has fallen into a “tired state” that “does not contribute economically or visually” to the area, the planners say.

EG On The Move is seeking reverse this decline by knocking the dealership building down and constructing in its place a filling station served by four pump islands and two 75,000-litre tanks, complete with a 5,400sq ft forecourt shop with food-to-go provision.

Eight ultra-rapid EV charging bays are proposed, as are 21 parking spaces and a jet wash. The planners have stated they will not install the jet wash adjacent to a neighbouring church, though, due to noise considerations. The forecourt is projected to create 20 full-time equivalent jobs.

A number of local residents have raised objections to the plans, though, with 55 critical comments submitted by members of the public. Most complaints highlight that the roads that surround the site are already known to play host to traffic jams, with concerns that these would be made worse by a new filling station. Residents also highlight that there is another PFS within half a mile of the site.
