The site is in need of new tanks due to its “aged” infrastructure

Oil major Esso is seeking planning permission to upgrade the forecourt hardware of a filling station in Warrington, Cheshire.

The firm says the filling station currently relies on an “aged fuel installation”, and is looking to install two new steel, double-skinned 65,000-litre underground tanks complete with a Class 1 leak-detection system.

The site will also be kitted out with new fuel pipes, while the existing canopy will be replaced with a taller, 5.2-metre-high one, thereby “reducing the risks to the structure from high-sided vehicle impacts”.

New signage and hardstanding will also be installed, while the parking bays will be enlarged to 2.5m by 5m, and steel bollards will be put in place to protect pedestrians from vehicles.
