The forecourt as seen in 2009

Land previously home to a petrol station in Wales is to be turned into a housing development with 82 residences, after the local authority rubber stamped the proposals.

The filling station used to occupy a small portion of the 2.3-hectare site in the village of Pont-Rhyd-Y-Cyff on the A4063 Bridgend Road.

The site’s canopy was dismantled between 2009 and 2011 while planning documents indicate all tanks and pipework have also been removed from the forecourt, leaving only hardstanding.

Now that the project has approval from Bridgend County Borough Council, developers Lewis Homes will be able to push forward with the construction of 82 homes, split across 73 houses and nine flats, together with landscaping.

Planning documents indicate a verification report was produced in 2010 confirming all potentially contaminated soil has been removed – though the developers may need to undertake further tests to ensure the site meets the latest standards in this regard.
