Store staff were said to be instrumental to the suspect’s apprehension

A 44-year-old man from Essex has been charged with a string of offences committed at the same BP filling station.

James Prentice from Grays has been charged with stealing high-value wine and other alcoholic drinks worth over £800 from BP Orsett South on the A13 near Stanford-le-Hope between 17 October and 18 November.

Essex Police said a combination of “thorough investigation” and “excellent teamwork” between filling-station staff and officers led to Prentice’s arrest on 21 November.

The force added: “Neighbourhood officers have also applied for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) to prevent him from entering this business in the future.”

Prentice was granted bail by Basildon Magistrates’ Court on 26 November, and is due to appear again on 23 January.
