Source’s first hub features 12 charging bays served by six units

The competitive world of EV chargepoint firms became even more competitive this month with the launch of Source, a joint venture between energy firm SSE and French oil company Total Energies.

Source’s first chargers have come on-stream in Edinburgh, with the new charging hub situated at the Ocean Terminal shopping centre to the north of the city, close to the Firth of Forth.

The hub offers 12 charging bays served by six 160kW charging units, with Source promising to “reshape the EV charging experience” promising reliability, speed and a “truly customer centric” experience.

The hub is one of 300 sites Source intends to open over the next five years, with renewable electricity supplied by SSE (formerly Scottish and Southern Energy).

Announcing the firm’s official launch Source’s managing director, Deepa Chandrasekaran, said the EV industry “has reached a turning point”, and her company is pitched to “lead it into unchartered territories”.

The company is targeting a 20% share of the UK and Ireland’s ultra-rapid charging market, and aims to achieve this not insignificant target by developing hubs that are “easy to find, easy to use, and built for the future”.
