Gett says over 4,000 of the London black cabs using its app are electrically powered

London cabbies who use the Gett app will benefit from discounts on thousands of public electric vehicle chargepoints across the capital thanks to a tie up between Octopus Energy and the taxi-booking service, which is pitched largely at corporate clients.

The black cab drivers will also be able to access the energy company’s Electroverse platform for pay-on-the-go charging.

Octopus says Electroverse is integrated with most chargepoint brands across the metropolis, and it will offer discounts on those run by Source London and MFG EV Power. Gett says over 4,000 of the London black cabs using its app are electrically powered.

Octopus says it also making home charging simpler and cheaper for taxi drivers signed up with Gett by installing chargers at their homes and offering discounts through its EV smart tariff system.

Matt Davies, director of Octopus Electroverse, says: “We’re making it even easier and cheaper for London’s iconic black cabs to go electric - an integral part of green mobility in the UK’s capital.”

Harjit Dhami, global head of procurement at Gett, adds: “The partnership will provide access to nearly 9,000 public chargepoints in London alone and will help to reduce downtime for black cab drivers. The number of e-black cabs has been growing steadily over the past few years and we are keen to play our part in accelerating the transition to a 100% electric future.”
