Police believe the would-be burglars were disturbed by the shop’s alarm activating

An attempted petrol-station burglary in Tarporley, Cheshire, has prompted police to appeal for witnesses, after thieves broke into the site’s shop but were disturbed before they could steal anything.

Officers from Cheshire Police say at around 10:25pm on Monday, May 4 the alarm was triggered at the Texaco forecourt’s Spar store, and when officers arrived on scene they found a fire door had been forced open and a CCTV camera tampered with.

Police believe the activation of the site’s burglar alarm had disturbed the intruders, who left the premises empty handed.

The force is now appealing to members of the public for help with tracking down the suspects, for whom no description exists, but who are thought to have used a dark-coloured Audi estate.

PC Grace Rimmer from Cheshire Police said: “The investigation is currently in its early stages, and we are following a number of lines of enquiry, including CCTV and forensics.

“As part of the enquiries I want to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have witnessed anything suspicious.

“I’m also keen to hear from any residents in the Eaton Road and Nantwich Road areas who may have any CCTV or doorbell footage of a dark Audi estate car which is believed to be linked to the incident. The car travelled to the scene along Eaton Road and was later seen fleeing the area at speed along Nantwich Road.

“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage of the car.

“I urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to call the team here at Northwich on 101, quoting IML-2322292.”

Chesire Police can also be contacted online using the same reference number.
