While conceding the image of the van is “not of the best quality”, police hope it may jog someone’s memory

Officers from Dorset Police are appealing to members of the public for information after two men in a Transit van attempted to remove a cash machine from a filling station in Wimborne.

The incident took place between 3:10am and 3:25am on Wednesday 29 April at a BP site on Leigh Road and saw the suspects, who were dressed in black and had their faces covered, drive onto the forecourt in a grey or silver van before attempting to steal the machine.

Imagery from Google Streetview indicates the site hosts a standalone external cash machine rather than one fully enclosed in the shop’s structure, but police say the robbery was nonetheless unsuccessful and no money is believed to have been stolen.

After the failed attempt the men returned to their vehicle, heading towards the Canford Bottom Roundabout as they departed.

Detective Inspector Rich Barnett of Dorset County CID said his force is “carrying out extensive enquiries into this incident”, and his officers are “appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during the early hours of Wednesday 29 April 2026 to please contact us.”

DI Barnett said that while the image released “is not of the best quality”, he hopes it “may jog the memory of anyone who was in the vicinity”.

Barnett asked people in the surrounding area to check any home CCTV or dashcam footage they may have, while anyone with relevant information can contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260061079.
