Drive-offs may often go uninvestigated by authorities, but officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are actively seeking a man suspected of stealing £800 worth of fuel.
The fuel was taken in three separate incidents at the Sainsbury’s filling station in Hedge End, a town to the east of Southampton, Hampshire.
Police “want to speak to” Jonathan Ward, a 26-year-old man who stands six-foot tall, is of slim build and has dark-brown hair.
Officers have “been following various lines of enquiry” to locate Ward and, having failed to do so, are now asking members of the public for help.
The force issued a statement warning that “anyone found to be harbouring Jonathan to deliberately obstruct our attempts to locate him may be committing an offence and be liable for arrest themselves”.
Officers advise the public that Ward should not be approached and that anyone with information about his whereabouts should dial 999, quoting reference number 44250389376.
Alternatively, reports can be made using Hampshire Police’s online tool, or via Crimestoppers.
