Filling station is part of Northop Services on the A55 in North Wales

A Shell-owned filling station in North Wales is to get a new, larger forecourt shop, should the oil major’s plans meet with approval from the local authority.

The forecourt, which has been operating since 1989, currently features a 1,560sq ft kiosk, but Shell is seeking to demolish this and construct a new 2,580sq ft shop in its place.

The site part of Northop Hall Services on the eastbound side of the A55 expressway connecting Cheshire with Wales. The forecourt features four pump islands; these and the canopy are being left as is, though some resurfacing of the hardstanding will be carried out as part of the redevelopment.

The new shop will have, Shell says, a “clean and crisp appearance” and will feature “extensive use of glazing”. A walk-in chiller, toilets and showers are also set to be offered, this last aspect reflecting the site’s location on a major trunk road services.

No other major changes are planned for the site save for the construction of four new car parking spaces.
