Patch of grass to left of forecourt will host chargers; shop to right will be extended

A filling station in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, owned by Grove Retail, will be expanded to offer EV charging and jet-wash facilities after local councillors granted planning permission.

The 24-hour BP-liveried site occupies a corner plot with a vacant patch of grassland to its north-east; this will play host to two jet-wash bays and a single EV charging unit, capable of delivering electricity at 150kW; a new air, water and vac bay will also be constructed on the land, which will be bordered by a new one-metre-high boundary fence.

Three managed parking spaces and a disabled bay will be added to the forecourt, while the site shop will be extended by 315sq ft to offer a food servery and preparation area.

Some locals had raised objections to the plans, with concerns around traffic and parking among the issues raised. But South Lanarkshire Council gave Grove the go ahead, with the local roads development management team seeing no issue with the proposals; the jet-wash machines must operate only between the hours of 8am and 8pm, though, due to noise considerations and the residential nature of the site.
