Fifty-one Just Stop Oil activists who took action at Kingsbury Oil Terminal in Warwickshire on Wednesday have been remanded to prison for at least a week by high court judges in Birmingham and London after they refused to comply with court proceedings.
They were detained after staging a sit-down outside the terminal where an injunction bans any protest action.
Thirty appeared at the Queen Elizabeth Court in Birmingham before Her Honour Judge Kelly and 21 appeared before Mr Justice Lavender at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.
The defendents refused to comply with proceedings in a variety of ways and many said they would break the injunction again if they were released.
Meanwhile, more action is being planned in London. Just Stop Oil is calling on its supporters to “occupy” Westminster on October 1 with actions including marches strikes and occupations.
And Extinction Rebellion has rescheduled its Festival of Resistance, which was postponed was due to the death of Queen Elizabeth, and it is now planned to take place from October 14-16.
