Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has come in for a lot of flak across social media for upping the minimum fee for putting air in your vehicle’s tyres.
The Mirror reported that shoppers were furious when they realised that the price of pumping up your tyres at the supermarket’s forecourts had increased from 30p for three minutes to 50p for five minutes.
Despite the change taking place in the summer, it only seems to have hit social media now. Apparently Sainsbury’s used to be the cheapest supermarket for air for your tyres but now its price is in line with others such as Asda, Morrisons and Tesco.
One person on Twitter said it was only a small thing but it was an example of the “many opportunistic price rises happening now”.
Sainsbury’s explained the change to the Mirror by saying that they offered customers five minute rather than the previous three, with each minute still priced at 10p. It added that this was in line with the “wider marketing offering” and based on customer feedback.
