The robbers struck the site just before midnight

Police are appealing for information following a break-in at a forecourt in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, that saw £20,000 of cash stolen.

Thieves broke into the Tesco Extra petrol station on Battlefield Road in the town at approximately 11:40pm on Tuesday 20 May, with CCTV showing three people snapping locks on the forecourt shop door to gain entry.

West Mercia Police say the burglars made off in a dark-grey Ford Fiesta, and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A statement from the force says: “We believe there were several people in the area at the time so we’re appealing for the help of the public to identify the offenders.”

Officers are asking anyone who was in the area and saw suspicious activity to contact the force, while also requesting drivers who were in the vicinity and may have dashcams to review their footage “in the minutes before or after the burglary”.

The officer in charge of the case is DC Georgina Barnes, who can be contacted on 07977235496 or via email at georgina.barnes@westmercia.police.uk.
