Drive-thru is proposed for land occupied by previous valeting centre; shop would be in building obscured by tree to left of existing restaurants, seen at the rear of image

Proposals to bring a derelict forecourt back to life while adding a new drive-thru restaurant have been revealed in planning documents.

Abbey Garage in Evesham occupies a 0.69-acre plot and used to trade as a Pace filling station with a valeting centre, but ceased operations in the early 2020s and has lain derelict since.

Now, developers Rottner & Rudge, who earlier in the year were given the go-ahead to redevelop an abandoned forecourt in Newport, Wales, have submitted a planning application seeking to rejuvenate the Worcestershire forecourt.

The firm proposes a complete redevelopment of the site. This would comprise the construction of a three-pump-island forecourt faced by a 2,375sq ft shop which would occupy an existing, albeit to-be refreshed building, that is attached to two active takeaway restaurants adjoining the site, and owned by the same landlord.

A 1,510sq ft drive-thru restaurant is planned for land previously occupied by the valeting centre, while two EV charging bays and 26 parking spaces, split between the restaurant and forecourt shop, are also proposed.

The planning application has only recently been submitted, but the council’s nuisance department has already responded to the project; it offers broad support, though recommends tanker deliveries be limited to before 9pm, rather than the 11pm cutoff proposed in planning documents.
