Developers are seeking to demolish the paint shop to the left of the site and use the main garage buillding for valeting operations

Plans to convert a former garage workshop into a valeting business have been submitted to East Hampshire District Council.

The site in question used to be occupied by Pritchards Garage on the main road close to the railway station in the market town of Alton, but the business relocated to the nearby village of Medstead after its founder passed away.

A company called Pristine Car Valeting Alton is seeking to develop the “iconic” site into a valeting business, keeping the main building in situ while demolishing a separate paint shop that sits on the same plot.

Four valeting bays would be erected inside the garage building, with customers driving into this from the rear thanks to the proposed removal of the paint shop, before exiting onto the main road via the workshop doors.

The developers highlight that valeting operations will take place inside the building, which will also house the jet-wash pumps and vacuum machines, and that “with sufficient on-site management there would not be an issue in their assessment with noise”.

Four full-time and two part-time staff would work at the centre during the week, with a further four part-time staff present on Fridays and weekends.
