A huge new EV charging hub has opened at the Cardigan Fields leisure park in Hull, Yorkshire, as part of a £25m deal between Raw Charging and commercial property firm Landsec.
The installation comprises 32 EV charging bays, split across 14 fast (7-22kW) chargers, six rapid 50kW bays, and 12 ultra-rapid 150kW spots. That spread of chargepoint types means visitors will be able to choose a device that will deliver electricity at a speed that will suit the length of time they intend to stay at the park.
While technically considered an EV charging ‘hub’ due to the presence of over six high-powered bays, the Cardigan Fields installation is also an example of ‘destination’ charging, as the units are situated in a location drivers will already be visiting, rather than being a standalone facility, as seen at Gridserve’s Electric Forecourts, and Fastned’s hubs.
Raw and Landsec announced their partnership earlier this year, with the £24.5m deal set to see over 1,000 charging bays installed at sites such as Bluewater and Gunwharf Quays shopping centres.
Raw already had partnerships with Merlin Entertainment and National Trust, while Landsec is the UK’s largest commercial property and development firm, with around £11bn worth of offices and shopping centres.
Neil Broadbank, Raw Charging’s chief commercial officer described the new hub as ”a significant milestone” in his firm’s partnership with Landsec, adding: “Our work with blue-chip clients such as Landsec demonstrates our expertise in delivering reliable, future-proof EV charging solutions that enhance the visitor experience.”
