A new-to-sector filling station on the outskirts of Truro, Cornwall, looks set to come to fruition over seven years since it was initially proposed.
Back in late 2018 BP applied to Cornwall Council for permission to build a new forecourt on the A390, four miles to the west of the county’s only city.
The filling station would feature six pump islands served by three 80,000 tanks and a 3,500sq ft forecourt shop, plus four jet-wash bays.
The authority granted permission in mid-2019, but the oil major subsequently “decided not to progress” with the project, which was taken over by MFG in 2021. Yet MFG would also go on to have a change of heart, with the project now being undertaken by Walker Developments and Maypool Estates.
Several revisions to the plans have also taken place, with changes over the years including a reduction in the number of pump islands from six to four, just two rather than three underground fuel tanks being proposed, an enlarged forecourt shop complete with café and with food-to-go concessions, and an artificial badger set to accommodate biodiversity planning regulations. Work on the site is already underway.
