Roadchef’s Northampton motorway services area on the M1/A43, has become the second of its sites to open Spar store, following the launch of the concept at Strensham on the M5 in July.
It offers motoring customers grocery items and a selection of artisan products, and has also has created 20 new jobs.
Roadchef expects that the new store will be popular with users of both the M1 and A43, as well as the local community. Together with other team members at the site, the 20-strong Spar team will be responsible for serving more than 10,000 customers that pass through the Northampton MSA every day.
The Northampton MSA Spar will feature the convenience group’s latest store design, combining its value proposition with a number of less familiar offerings, including an in-store bakery that will meet an increasing demand from motorists for a wider range of healthy, fresh produce.
Simon Turl, CEO of Roadchef, said: “Following the successful launch of our trial store at Strensham, we’re delighted to announce the opening of our second Spar at our Northampton North site. As one of our key MSA’s in the UK, we see Northampton as the perfect place to develop our portfolio of convenience store outlets. We pride ourselves on the opportunities we bring to the local community and we’re pleased to bring this new Spar and 20 new jobs to the area.”
Debbie Robinson, Spar UK managing director, said: “We are excited to be working with Roadchef on our second store together, on the M1 at Northampton North. This new Spar is one of our best stores yet, offering a fantastic combination of fresh foods on the go including Daily Deli and a wide choice for evening meals. There’s fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, bakery and an extensive range of local beers and ciders, as well as the wine selection – all available on the move.”
Roadchef plans to open further Spar stores at its other MSA sites in 2016, creating many new jobs across the country.
