Durham police sent CSI officers to the forecourt

Thieves made off with the till and other items from a Durham forecourt after breaking into the site at 2:30am earlier in the week.

The Jet-liveried Penny on the Move site in Darlington was closed following the incident, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, though the filling station and shop have since reopened. The site sits opposite a Methodist church on a leafy street in the market town.

Images shared by the Northern Echo appear to show the break-in occurred after burglars smashed the glass in the forecourt shop’s door. A crime-scene investigation (CSI) van was spotted at the site at 1pm, with the site coned off to prevent members of the public from entering.

Durham Police told the paper: “Police were called at around 2.30am this morning (May 6) to reports of a burglary at Carmel Road service station, Darlington.

“It is believed the suspects broke in and made off with the till and other items. Enquiries are currently ongoing to identify the offenders.”
