Armed police officers have swooped on a car carrying drugs at a service station in Durham.

Durham Roads and Armed policing (RAP) officers intercepted the car at Scotch Corner Services on the A1 on Friday afternoon (September 23) after suspecting it was being used to transport drugs into South Durham.

The vehicle was tracked by officers from National Police Air Service (NPAS) and was seen heading from Manchester into the North East via the A1M.

RAP officers were deployed to the area and kept in constant contact with NPAS who kept eyes on the vehicle as it pulled into Scotch Corner Services.

All four occupants were detained at the service station and a search of the car revealed what was described as “a large quantity” of Class B and C drugs.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and no insurance, while another man, aged 22 and two woman, aged 37 and 32 were also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

The drugs and car were seized and an investigation is under way. All four have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
