Police evacuated nearby buildings after a crash on a Morrisons forecourt in Scotland prompted fears of a gas leak.

Emergency services were called to the Morrisons garage off Alderstone Road in Armadale, Livingston, after the alarm was raised at around 7.45pm on Sunday, April 24.

Police said the incident involved three vehicles and pictures of the scene showed a mini-bus smashed into a petrol pump.

Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution following a suspected gas leak caused by the collision, and police asked residents to avoid the area as they sealed off a number of nearby streets.

However, the area was declared safe at around 12.50am and police reported there had been no serious injuries.

Inspector Brendan McMahon from Police Scotland said: “We’d like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding, as we worked alongside Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and engineers to ensure the area was safe.”
