Officers from Thames Valley Police are investigating after the occupants of a blue BMW were caught attempting to steal fuel from a petrol station in Reading.
They reported on the social media that the vehicle has been linked to a number of thefts in the area.
In a post on the TVP Roads Policing twitter page, they said: “Vehicle intercepted as occupants were about to steal fuel. Vehicle linked to a number of thefts. Number plates had been altered to fool us #fellatthefirsthurdle #can’tfoolus. Miserable attempt.”
The images with the post appeared to show the driver had attempted to use black tape to alter the numbers on the car’s registration plates.
Enquiries are ongoing by TVP regarding the incident.
