Plans have been submitted for a knockdown rebuild of Shell’s forecourt on the A45 London Road in Collingtree, Northampton. The plans say the site is in need of refurbishment as it does not currently fully meet the need of motorists.
The application states: “The principle of the redevelopment on the site should be accepted given that the site is an existing long-established petrol filling station which provides an important facility for motorists, which is in need of an upgrade in order to meet customers’ needs and bring the facility up to modern day standards.”
Proposals include an extended shop building to make space for customer toilets, including disabled facilities. The planning application for the shop states: “Large glass windows along the front elevation will allow actively to be seen inside thereby creating visual interest within the development and creating a clean, welcoming environment which is modern, attractive and uncluttered.”
On the forecourt there will be a new 280,000 litre double skinned steel tank farm and a new canopy. The existing HGV area would be relocated slightly to make room for the extended shop. In addition, the current trading hours of 8am to 8pm would be extended to 8am to 10pm.
Comments on the plans have to be submitted by September 23.
