A tightening of Covid restrictions in England, including advice to work at home if possible, appears to have had limited impact on road fuel sales.
According to the latest statistics from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), average daily fuel sales for the week to December 19 were down 2.2% on the previous week at 16,270 litres, equivalent to 92% of average sales prior to the pandemic.
Stock levels were above average at 47% with deliveries above sales levels at 16,740 litres.
The figures from BEIS are based on end-of-the-day snapshots of petrol and diesel sales and stock levels from a sample of around 4,500 filling stations across Great Britain.
However, the fuel volumes are collected primarily from oil companies, supermarkets and large independent filling stations, and this results in higher daily average figures than if all independent volumes were included.
