The UK’s largest forecourt operator, MFG, has announced it is working with UK energy firm Octopus to facilitate easier charging sessions.
The fuel retailer has adopted the Octopus’ ‘Plug & Charge’ system, which allows EV drivers signed up to the energy company’s service to simply plug in a compatible car, at which point charging begins and payment is taken automatically, an authenticating ‘handshake’ having been made between charger and car.
Around 95% of MFG’s EV Power chargers can make use of the system, though only EVs made by VW, Cupra, Skoda MINI and BMW are compatible with Plug & Charge..
Martin Symes, MFG’s EV director comments: “At MFG, we’re committed to making the EV transition as easy as possible for drivers. By enabling Plug & Charge across almost our entire network, we’re removing frustrating inefficiencies and delivering the seamless, reliable charging experience our customers deserve. This is another major step in our ongoing investment to support the UK’s shift to electric vehicles, making MFG the first major UK network to deliver this game-changing convenience at scale.”
