An app which helps forecourt operators to maintain a safe environment has been launched by the PRA in partnership with SafetyCulture.

PRA members are being given free access to the iAuditor app, allowing them to conduct unlimited forecourt inspections for teams of up to 10 staff.

The PRA technical team has compiled checklists to be used within the app to ensure that members’ forecourts are operating safely and in compliance with all safety and environmental legislation.

Adam Gillet, head of partnerships at SafetyCulture, commented: “On the forecourt, it’s critical nothing is missed – which is why we’ve teamed up with the PRA to put best practice forecourt compliance standards into the platform for all PRA members to use for free.

“With the digital template endorsed by the PRA’s primary authority partner, Hampshire County Council, members can be confident they are following best practice.”

The iAuditor app, which launched in 2012 and has been evolving ever since, is designed to be used on any platform, such as a PC, tablet or mobile phone. After completion reports can be edited and downloaded in a PDF format.

Because petrol filling stations vary in both the way that they operate and through physical arrangements, such as type and age of equipment, mode of operation, and arrangements for deliveries of fuel, the checklists are designed to be adaptable for each petrol station or business.

Individual items can be removed and added as required to cover all that it is necessary to check on a specific site.

For example, the items related to driver unassisted deliveries can be removed when a site receives deliveries of petrol with site staff assisting the tanker driver.

Unrelated items may be removed from a site checklist, but the site-specific risk assessment, which is a legal requirement under the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR), must be used to ensure that nothing has been removed from a checklist which could be deemed to affect site safety and nothing which poses a site-specific risk has been omitted from that checklist.

The app is free to use and can be used for up to 10 people for an unlimited number of inspections.

For those looking to upgrade to larger teams or benefit from on-demand analytics and integrations with other business systems, SafetyCulture offers a paid model.
