A newly developed Shell forecourt and Spar store has been opened by Spar wholesaler for the north of England, James Hall & Co, at Wolsingham in County Durham.
The development replaces a Spar store which had been at the centre of Wolsingham village since 1995, and the purpose-built, 3,000sq ft Spar store on a new site will offer customers a larger shop floor, butchery and deli counter, and the addition of forecourt facilities.
Built on the site of a former garage on the A689, Spar Wolsingham feature eight Shell fuel pumps, air, water and vacuum facilities, customer car parking bays and two cycle hoops for four bicycles.
The new Spar store will offer a Graham Eyes butchery counter and Clayton Park Deli, a large selection of everyday essentials, fresh and ambient produce, household and beauty, beers, wines and spirits.
Fiona Drummond, company owned stores director at James Hall & Co, said: “Spar Wolsingham has proudly served its local community for 26 years. We took the decision to invest in a new site on the outskirts of the village to create a larger, purpose-built Spar store with additional services that will bring value and convenience for local people.
“By extending the shop floor, we have been able to include a larger range of products and the addition of a Graham Eyes butchery counter and Clayton Park Deli. In an age where supermarkets are closing butchery and deli serve overs, we have seen an increase in customers looking to buy fresh, quality meat from their local convenience store. Graham Eyes is an award-winning, family butcher who currently features in eight of our north of England Spar stores.”
She added: “Safety is of paramount importance and we have installed a number of Covid-19 safety measures across the store including perspex till screens, Spar-branded hand sanitiser stations and social distancing markings.”
The new store will be open between 7am-11pm, seven days a week.
