Back in 2021 MFG announced it was putting £400m into EV charging

Drivers using MFG’s EV Power branded chargers this summer will be making use of one of the cheaper rates available for ultra-rapid charging, with the firm introducing a 25% price cut for the season.

The company is reducing the cost of kiloWatt hour (kWh) from 79p to 59p at all 2,000 of its charging bays, which are spread out across 600 locations amongst MFG’s 1,200-forecourt portfolio.

The price reduction runs from 1 July to 30 September 2026, and MFG estimates it will save drivers as much as £6 of a complete battery charge.

Back in 2021 the private-equity-owned company announced it was dedicating £400m to EV charging.

But while MFG’s chargers are well liked by motorists, coming behind only Tesla’s Supercharger network in a customer satisfaction survey last year, indications are that the chargepoint sector as a whole is struggling for profitability, with multimillion pound losses the norm.

Earlier this week Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, warned that the natural, unsubsidised market share for EVs stands at just 12%, while around 65% of all motorists, and 91% of EV drivers have driveways from which they can charge for as little as 7p per kWh.
