The site’s car wash will be converted into a Greggs

MFG’s recent proposals to demolish a car wash at a forecourt near Halifax in order to add a food-to-go extension to the site’s shop appears not to be an isolated case, with the firm planning a similar move in Wakefield.

Wakefield Council has given MFG the go ahead for this second project, which will see the car wash structure extended and converted into a conventional building spanning 580sq ft, allowing the firm to install a Greggs at the site.

Four new customer parking bays will be added as part of the project, which was green lit by the local authority at the beginning of March.

But while some sites appear better suited to food provision than valeting, expanding car-wash facilities is still very much within the firm’s scope: last month it was granted permission to add five jet-wash bays to a filling station in Diss, south Norfolk.

With over 1,200 forecourts in the UK MFG is in a near-constant state of planning and development. The firm recently announced an expansion of its 25-year deal with outdoor advertising firm Wildstone that will see more digital ad screens installed across its estate, while at the beginning of the year it applied to Norwich City Council, seeking permission to triple the size of a Morrisons forecourt’s shop.
