Jelly Bean doughnut is amongst Park’s retro-inspired menu items

Bakery 79 – the food-to-go sub-brand of Park Garage Group – is embracing retro-inspired trends with the launch of a ‘Summer of 79’ menu featuring nostalgia-inspired lines including Black Forest hot chocolate, coronation chicken baguette, and chicken Kiev bites.

Park, which operates 80 forecourts, has replaced its Greggs concessions with 12 Bakery 79 outlets after unveiling the concept in early 2025. It has since launched an accompanying loyalty app, as well as the opportunity for other retailers to use the brand under a franchise agreement.

Now, in recognition of the growing popularity of nostalgia, which is on-trend in almost every aspect of culture, from fashion and décor to technology and food, Park has unveiled a Summer of 79 menu, which features over 20 retro-inspired lines.

Cherryade, cheese and pineapple baguettes, Parma Violet Doughnuts and fruit and custard pots all feature in the ‘70s-inspired menu, which Park says is intended to appeal to younger customers looking for “playful indulgence”, as well as older shoppers “reconnecting with comforting childhood favourites”.

Park’s Hemant Tandon, who co-founded Bakery 79, which is named after the year the company was set-up, says: “Nostalgia is becoming an increasingly important influence across food and drink, particularly within bakery and sweet treats. Consumers are looking for flavours that feel familiar and comforting, but still offer something playful and visually engaging.

“With the Summer of 79 menu, we wanted to bring together recognisable retro favourites and reinterpret them in a fresh, modern bakery format that appeals across different customer groups.”
