Burglars smashed their way into a Tesco Express and Esso alliance site at Cheltenham Road in Evesham at around 5am on Wednesday 29 December.

Alcohol was stolen and the two offenders made off towards the traffic lights on Abbey Road in a silver Vauxhall Astra.

The following morning there was a hole in the front window and the store and forecourt were closed, but a Tesco spokesperson later said: “Our Evesham Esso Express store is now open after briefly closing to allow us to clean up following an attempted robbery yesterday evening. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

West Mercia Police reported that their investigation into the incident was ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
