Euro Garages has applied for planning permission to bulldoze two Shell filling stations in Glasgow and replace them with Asda on the Move convenience stores.
At the Switchback Service Station on Bearsden Road, a planning statement with the application specifies that the company wishes to build a 2,350sq ft Asda on the Move store on the site.
Currently there is a Shell filling station on the site with four double-sided fuel pump stations, a car wash and a 1,250sq ft Shell Connect shop offering Spar goods and Starbucks on the Go, all trading 24 hours-a-day.
It states the new retail store would stock up to 2,500 products, including a more extensive range of fresh produce and chilled lines than is traditionally found on fuel forecourts. There would be 15 parking spaces including two electric charging bays.
Other than plans for the scheme there are no details given for the second planned redevelopment, of the Shell PFS at 61 Edinburgh Road, Baillieston. There is no planning statement, or even a copy of the planning application, on the Glasgow City Council planning website, but the wording, “Demolition of petrol station and erection of class 1 retail unit with associated parking, access and works” is identical to the application in Bearsden Road.
