Issa brothers agree £6.8bn deal with Walmart to take over Asda
A £6.8bn deal to buy Asda has been agreed by EG Group’s founders and joint CEOs Zuber and Mohsin Issa and private equity group TDR Capital. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval and expected to complete in the first half of next year, involves the Issa brothers and TDR Capital acquiring a majority ownership stake in Asda, but its current owner, the giant US retailer Walmart will retain an equity investment in the business, with an ongoing commercial relationship and a seat on the board.

EG Group is chosen as the preferred bidder to take over Asda
Euro Garages parent company EG Group is the leading contender to take over Asda in a £6.5bn deal. According to Sky News, a consortium led by Mohsin and Zuber Issa, the bosses of EG Group, and TDR Capital, the London-based private equity firm, has been selected by Asda’s owner, the American retailer Walmart, as the preferred bidder for the supermarket group.
